Beyond the Marathon: An Introduction to Ultrarunning
Monday March 8, 2010
Have you thought about going the ultradistance but you didn't know where to start? If so, then the Berkeley Running Company invites you to listen to Jeff Mallach and Scot VanAsten, two seasoned ultradistance enthusiasts. In this intro level clinic, one will find out what it takes to run longer than the standard marathon distance of 26.2 miles. Also, the two speakers will share how to choose an event and how to train -- and about goal-setting, trail running, mental conditioning, pacing, hydration and fuel, shoes and equipment and the logistics that are unique to ultrarunning. Our staff encourages you to bring your questions.
Jeff Mallach is the Race Director of the Ice Age 50M/50K, which is held each May in the Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. In his 22 years of running, he has completed 16 marathons and almost 50 ultras, including 20+ 50-mile races and three 100-mile events. Jeff can be reached at iceage50rd@sbcglobal.net
