A New Madison Training Group

Saturday Marathon Training Group

runners at the Green Bay marathon

If a spring or summer marathon is on your calendar (especially those running the Green Bay Marathon on May 17), make sure you check out Rick Smith's Saturday Marathon Training group for some good company and conversation, as well as group motivation for those long training runs. The group meets Saturday mornings and is led by Berkeley's good friend Rick Smith. The long runs are guided by the book, "Run Less, Run Faster," though varying pace groups are designed to accommodate a wide range of runners and their training plans. Rick publishes the routes on MapMyRun before each Saturday.

Besides marathoners, many others join the group on Saturdays for shorter distances -- and routes are designed to let you adjust as needed. Runs typically start and finish at a local Madison coffee shop like Starbucks, Panera, Victor Allen's or EVP for the convenience of before-run restrooms and after-run coffee, food and conversation.

Join the Facebook group for weekly run announcements!

Email Rick with questions.

Early Morning Group Run
Tuesdays & Thursdays @ 5 a.m. (6 miles)
Saturdays @ 5 a.m. (10-20 miles)

Early-morning runs are a fantastic start to your day, giving you a boost of energy, a different perspective on your city and helping you find time for your training amid a busy schedule. The Berkeley Red Socks group leaves from the store at 5 a.m. sharp every Tuesday and Thursday for a six-mile run to the Capitol and back at a 7:30-7:45/mile pace. On Saturdays, the group goes long--anywhere from 10 to 20 miles.

The Red Socks group is perfect for anyone training for a Boston qualifying time (hence the group name) or anyone who just enjoys an early-morning run and wants a few friendly faces to join them.

Run Run Run

A new album from former Badger runner Ryan Craven

The Berkeley Running Company is happy to support former Badger runner, Ryan Craven, as he takes the next big step in his music career. His new album, "Run Run Run," is the culmination of Ryan's two greatest passions in life: running and music. Realizing running fans don't really have many songs that capture that which is so near and dear to them, Ryan drew from his own athletic experience and got to work crafting songs and scribbling lyrics.

Ryan's album now available in-store @ Berkeley!

Adidas Ultra Boost

Men's & Women's

Adidas has taken their ultra-popular Boost technology to the next level. The Ultra Boost features a midsole composed entirely of the revolutionary Boost material, which Adidas says delivers 20% more of the energy-returning "boost" effect than their previous iterations. The upper is now a single piece, with no separate tongue, giving the Ultra Boost a sock-like fit. An external heel cup gives some support and structure, along with an all-new version of Adidas' famous Torsion system. The shoe also features a new "stretch web" outsole.

Brooks PureConnect 4

Men's & Women's

The PureConnect is the neutral option in Brooks' Pure line, and the revamped PureConnect 4 takes an even simpler approach than the previous generation. Brooks stripped down the PureConnect upper, using lighter, softer and more breathable materials that keep your foot feeling light and fast. The midsole still features Brooks' adaptive BioMoGo DNA material to provide just the right amount of cushion. The rounded heel and toe-flex outsole pods help your body move in its natural running motion and lets you feel a sensory connection to the ground beneath your feet.

Zensah Recovery Tight

Men's & Women's

Zensah is one of the most trusted names in compression-wear, and their unisex Recovery Tight lives up to expectations. Ankle-to-hip compression maximizes circulation for faster recovery, muscle stabilization and performance for any fitness activity.

CW-X Men's Endurance Generator Short

CW-X has been leading the way in compression technology, and their Endurance Generator short is a great way to bring the benefits of compression gear to your everyday training. The shorts feature all-new EXO-Stretch fabric that provides even better support to the major muscles of your thighs, hips and core, while giving you the comfort of high-performance moisture-wicking and flat-seam construction. Wear the CW-X short as an undershort with regular running shorts, or under tights or pants for winter runs, and feel the compression helping you run stronger, longer.

Nike ForeveRun Women's Tight

Nike ForeveRun women's tight

Add some personality to your running outfit with Nike's ForeveRun tights! The tights feature supportive and ultra-wicking Dri-FIT fabric, a wide, comfortable waistband and a flattering fit that moves with you. A vibrant print tops it all off!

Magnetics for Runners

Tuesday, March 24
6:30pm @ Berkeley

Athletes and non-athletes have been using the power of magnetics to help create harmony in their muscles and tissues. Whether you are an elite runner seeking better performance, a couch potato hoping to get moving, a senior citizen still walking, or a diabetic battling neuropathy, properly designed magnetic technologies can help.

David Andersen, one of the leaders of Nikken Magnetics for the Madison area, has been using Nikken magnetic products for 17 years. When he started using magnets he went from running 5ks to running marathons.

Trigger Point Dry Needling for Runners

Thursday, April 23
6:30pm @ Berkeley

Trigger Points are irritable, hard “knots” within a muscle that may cause pain leading to difficulty with running. Join us for this informational seminar to learn how Dry Needling, a treatment that involves a very thin needle to stimulate a trigger point, can help you release the tight muscle bands associated with trigger points and lead to decreased pain and improved function. Common injuries that can be successfully treated with Dry Needling include:
• Plantar Fascitis
• Achilles Tendonitis
• ITB pain
• Low Back and Neck pain

David Nissenbaum MPT, LAT, OCS, Director of Physical Therapy at Sport and Spine Clinic of Madison is trained in Trigger Point Dry Needling. David will demonstrate how Trigger Point Dry Needling works as well as explain the science behind this amazing technique. He is happy to needle anyone that would like to experience the technique.
